Eighteen year old Finn O’Sullivan seems to be from a typical small rural town of Bone Gap. He resides with his brother Sean, who puts his education on hold to stay home until Sean graduates. They were abandoned by their mom for her own personal happiness which leaves the siblings quite uncomfortable. Finn have earned nick names like Moonface and Sidetrack due to the fact that he never look people in the eye. This is probably why he is unable to identify the person who kidnapped his friend Roza, the sweet and loving Polish girl roommate, in a SUV and now her safety relies on him. Traveling by a mysterious black horse, Finn becomes aware mystical worlds of Bone Gap and begins to believe that he can save his friend.

I found that after reading Bone Gap left me with mixed reviews on the book. I feel that Laura Ruby uniquely addresses the aspects of trust, love, helplessness and even sexual encounters while keeping readers guessing with each turn of the page. I liked how each of the human emotions were used at just the right times right moments. My only dislike for the book for the sudden flipping from reality to mystery, it was a little confusing for me as a reluctant fantasy reader. However, I would suggest this book my avid female young adult readers, who enjoy titles such as Twilight, will enjoy moments of love to the anxious anticipation of what the future may hold for each of the characters.
